Jakarta: Best Local Food - Pondok Laguna

Jakarta has been known as a food paradise. Frankly, I have never been a big fan of Indonesian food as compared with Thai food. But one restaurant, I must say, blows me away.

Pondok Laguna is a must visit food hole for me everytime i visit Jakarta. It is supposed to be a Sundanese restaurant (I was told Sundanese food comes from Bandung - another part of Indonesia) but the food consumed were mainly seafood.

Personally, I could whack their sambal till kingdom come. But it is their tahu kipas which is beancurd filled with prawn and then deep fry that would blow their customers away. I swear I could finish at least 5 servings of those in one seating. Their grilled chickens are pretty good as well. So are their cumi bakar (fried cuttlefish).

Go for their refreshing young cocunut juice which complements very well with their reasonably oily food.

So for your next visit to Jakarta, make sure you include Pondok Laguna as one of your refueling stop. All taxi drivers will know this place unless they are from other parts of Indonesia.
